The life insurance payments of many UK consumers are being exceeded by the amount they spend on gambling, new research has suggested.

As many as 34 million people try their hand at gambling, figures published by Aviva have revealed.

This stands in comparison to the 20 million consumers who have taken out life insurance cover.

The company's head of protection Louise Colley has emphasised the potentially valuable nature of life insurance policies.

She stated: "People know that protecting themselves and their family is extremely important, but many people wrongly think it's too expensive and delay sorting life insurance."

According to Ms Colley's organisation, a sum of just £5 could be spent on life insurance by UK consumers each month if they choose to get cover.

Meanwhile, separate Aviva research has also suggested that 18 per cent of people feel they will have to support their grown-up children financially during their later lives.ADNFCR-3155-ID-800039177-ADNFCR
